Did you know Twiggy’s given name was Lesley Hornby? I didn’t either until I looked it up. She’s a great example of the power of a good haircut/color. In 1966, Twiggy had her hair colored and cut short by celebrity hairdresser Leonard. He was trying out his new crop haircut on models and then having pictures taken and hung in the salon. When a fashion journalist from The Daily Express saw Twiggy’s picture, she immediately asked to meet with her and arranged to have more photos taken. A few weeks later, the publication featured a picture of newly cropped Twiggy declaring her “The Face of ’66.”
But they used extensions back then too. Check out Twiggy’s amazing side braid. Girl was so on point.
This famous shot is clearly some of the inspiration behind the gorgeous Lily’s Flying Hair video.
