It’s no secret that I love reality TV shows, especially hair related reality TV! (By the way, Wednesday night is Shear Genius! And don’t forget to tune in Thursday for my interview with the booted contestant… Wonder who it will be?)
Due to the success of stylists as reality stars, NBC’s Peacock Productions just announced that it has signed Nick Arrojo for an upcoming reality series. You may (or may not) remember Nick from TLC’s What Not to Wear. He also runs ARROJO Studio salon in NYC, has a hair care line, and is launching a new Salon Ambassador program.
Of the new show, which is still in development, Nick says: “We’re putting together an inspirational, uplifting show, highlighting my staff and students, as they follow their dreams and deal with all the emotions that ensue. I’m also looking forward to giving the world a look into the creativity and hard work found in the hair industry as well as the challenges of running three successful businesses.”
I hope it’s not too uplifting. I mean, that’s not why people watch reality TV. Learn from Bravo–we want vomiting and roller skates.

I almost never thought Nick’s styles on What Not To Wear were actually that flattering on the women. And it seemed like he got too much pleasure out of cutting their hair just to shock them… It will be interesting to see what he is like with his normal client (and his students!).
Amy: I have never been a fan of What Not to Wear. I can’t stand those two whats there faces on that show. But two thoughts came to mind when you described the hair happenings. 1.) what a dick. and 2.) that could make for some good tragedy TV! Makeovers that horrify!
I agree with Amy, and it’s actually what I was coming to comment about myself. I think he is awful and almost always gives women exactly what they asked him NOT to do. I remember one where the woman needed her hair long enough to put in a ponytail for work – I think she was a nurse or something – and he gave her, no shit, a bowl cut. He seriously makes me cringe.
Alison: Oh no, for real? What a dick move. Did she stab him with his shears? Because I think that’s what I would have done.
