In January, I did an Interview with Whitney Port’s Cousin/Hair Stylist, Jackie Braverman. Afterward, Jackie kindly agreed to report back on the styling she did at this year’s Grammy Awards, where she did Ashley Port Bogart’s hair. Ashley is Whitney Port’s older sister and wife of Evan “Kidd” Bogart, songwriter of Beyonce‘s hit single “Halo”, which was nominated for Record of the Year and won for Best Pop Female Vocal Performance. Jackie also did Genevieve Tedder’s hair, wife of OneRepublic front man Ryan Tedder who was also a co-writer of “Halo”. Check out how Jackie transformed Ashley’s long, curly blonde hair into a gorgeous red carpet style…
This is Ashley’s “before” hair. She has long, thick, naturally curly hair, which tends to become frizzy in humidity. Jackie says that her styling options were limited due to the weight and length of Ashley’s locks, but she decided to take a little risk with her Grammy look. It sure paid off!
Jackie started with Ashley’s day old hair. “I decided to blow out her hair, section by section to reduce the frizz and calm down her natural curl,” Jackie says. “As I finished blowing out each section with an extra-large round brush, I lightly sprayed the section with hair spray. Next I used a 1 ¼” curling iron to curl each section. I took large pieces since I wanted her curls to be soft. I made sure to keep the curls in the barrel shape so that I was able to pin them up.” Jackie then secured each section with roller clips and made sure to curl the front section going backwards for extra volume.
“I misted her hair again with hairspray and let Ashley’s curls cool while she got her make-up done, which took about an hour,” Jackie explains.
After Jackie removed the clips from Ashley’s hair, she finger combed her locks, making sure she coated her hands with pomade first to avoid making the hair frizzy. “The way her hair feel naturally is how I decided to finish her style,” Jackie says.

“Ashley’s part was heavy to one side, so I twisted back the other side and secured it with four bobby pins,” Jackie says. “I finished with another mist of hairspray and shine spray all over.”
