Ever since I got my hair cut, I’ve been thinking a lot about what I find interesting about hair. I like writing about celebrity hair, but mainly from the gossipy perspective. For the most part, celeb hair is pretty and pretty boring. Lots and lots of long, loose curls. Hair that’s not boring? The heads coming out of WIP Hairport in Lisbon, Portugal.

The cuts they do at Hairport are like hair art. I’m posting the tame ones. Check out their Flickr page, if you want to browse some extreme hair inspiration.

What’s the most extreme haircut you guys have had? Would you ever rock a cut like this? Or if not this style, one this daring? I’m curious…

The transformative power of hair is intense. If you get a dramatically different haircut, sometimes you will barely be able to recognize yourself in the mirror. That can feel scary, but also really good.
Before you say no way to a dramatic cut, check this out. Before…
After!
Sometimes you just have to let go…

i love the luluish cut in the first pic. I love hair that has a distintive look. Once i cut my long hair off to donate it to locks of love. I told the stylist i wanted to be surprised with my new look so i wanted her to turn me away from the mirror. i didn’t look at my new hair until the stylist had completed my new look. It was the most fun i ever had at the salon! I looked so different with the new short hair and i loved it!
Oh man, it looks like that lady lost at least as many years as she did inches! I am such a fan of getting rid of long hair that does nothing for you except lie there.
Nicole: I ttl agree. I thought it was amazing how great she looked after!
Gidget: that’s an awesome story! I don’t think I could ever be that brave. I would have to know what the stylist was going to do at least! I’ve always wanted to donate my hair, but it’s never been quite long enough when I’ve chopped it. That’s really cool that you did that.
she looks fantastic! I adore the second picture – i would do that except I fear my head would look like a giant beach ball – and I’m barely pregnant and anticipating the face bloat.
shannon: congrats! how exciting!!
about her cut: I agree that cutting it all off isn’t right for every face type… but I love the spirit behind it, like, yeah just DO IT. cut it all off! sometimes a big dramatic change is just what one needs–whether it be a pixie cut, new hair color, extensions, bangs…
I’m guessing the baby is probably all you need in the “big dramatic change” department, though!
not such a dramatic change for me – it’s my 4th!
I always seem to want to chop my hair when I’m preggo and especially after the baby is born because it all starts falling out anyway.
shannon: wow! 4!!! I guess by then you are use to it.
Nicole is so very right! That lady does look like she lost years off her face with the cut!
gidget: she does look so much younger!
