Ever since I saw this photo of a runway model with thick fishtail braids, I’ve been curious how to achieve a similar look. I found this easy to follow YouTube video of a girl creating bohemian fishtail braids. I had no idea how to create the braids before watching this video, but it’s actually not that hard! I think you need a lot of long and thick hair to really create this style, though, but maybe some of you will be able to pull off this style.
And now that you know how to achieve the look, here’s more fishtail hair inspiration…

That’s actually a lot easier than it looks. Now I wish I had long hair again.
Chris, the vid makes it look pretty easy to understand how to do, I thought. And I forget, how long is your hair right now?
It’s chin length. I’m growing out a pixie that I had for about five years. My hair is fine and, thanks to genetics, thinning, so I’m all about camouflaging and making it look like I have more hair than I really do.
Hey Chris, layers help a bit with making hair appear a bit fuller. Also, have you ever tried any vitamins or anything? Check out this review for Phyto Phytophanere Dietary Supplement for Hair & Nails.

I have been using it for a while and it is a bit pricey but it really helped my hair! Also, I upped my protein intake and that helped a lot too, I think. But I am not sure if it works if the thinning is due to genetics. Just thought I would through it out there.
I like it! It’s even easier than a french braid. But I agree, you’ll need thick hair. I love the style in the first one, but that requires a load of extensions!
Thanks for the advice, Val! As soon as my budget allows I will try those vitamins. If they work, I might save money on thickening/volumizing products, thereby freeing up cash for the vitamins!
I have been to several doctors – to rule out any health problems that might have been contributing to the hair loss – and my dermatologist broke it to me like this: “Sorry kid, you’ve got female pattern baldness”. Gee, thanks, doc. My internist even had the nerve to say, “Well, there are things more important than hair”, and in the grand scheme of things she right, but she’s also got a head full of gorgeous hair, so she can shut the hell up. Sorry, I kind of went on there, didn’t I?
Chris, ugh, lovely bedside manner some of those doctors have… That’s a terrible way to minimize a very serious issue that affects one’s psyche. This is a good place to vent. I know there are not things more important than hair!
I’m glad to hear it’s not a health problem though. Just curious, have you ever tried Nioxin? I can’t recommend it, because I have never tried it, but some of the product reviews (for thinning hair) on Makeupalley are interesting.

Audrey, yeah. Serious extensions going on there… But it looks so cool! I’m jealous.
Yes, I have been using Nioxin for about 2 years and I think it has helped slow the thinning. I remember when I was about 16 or 17 I used to bitch that my hair was too frizzy. At least I had plenty of it back then. I was an ungrateful brat
Thank you for the advice. Part of me keeps hoping if I get my diet right and effectively eliminate stress entirely from my life that my hair will magically grow back all thick and lush. Hello, pipe dream!
Chris, I’m glad the Nioxin is slightly helping. Ok, so you probably know all of this, but some say vitamins can also help: I take biotin and a good mutli-B vitamin because B vitamins in general are suppose to be good for hair & nails. This is somewhat informative.

Although, you probably know more on this than I do.
Chris, Valerie had a great suggestion! I have taken a hairgrowth vitamin for about a year now and have seen some amazing progress in my hair growth. My Mom, who lost her hair due to Chemo, also started taking it and her hair looks so much healthier and beautiful! Good luck with everything!
no offense to the girl doing the vid but errrm who is Ashley Teeeeesdale?! lol bless her
Hey Aisha, Ashley Tisdale is from the High school Musical movies:
