InStyle asked Mary J. Blige about her trademark blonde tresses in their November issue, out this week.
“I first went blonde in the seventh grade,” Mary told InStyle, “and it’s the only color that works for me. I’ve tried other shades, but I always end up going back to blonde. Now I try to keep the roots darker and blend in some lowlights, so it looks like it could have grown out of my head.”
New York colorist Louis Licari says, “If you over-highlight your blond hair, you lose the golden tones that keep it looking youthful and pretty, and hair that is dyed too dark is unnatural.”
