Melrose Place’s Katie Cassidy showed up at the Hollywood Life’s 6th Annual Hollywood Style Awards on October 11, 2009, working the bold shoulder trend that was also seen on Style Ingénue Award winner Selena Gomez.
Katie’s hair is… Well, it’s interesting. I have to give people points for doing something different, you know? But basically this is bad prom/wedding hair. Katie’s dress is daring and needs a structured updo since there is so much going on at the top of the dress. I understand that they wanted to get her hair up and out of the way, but bringing it up so high and in such a dated manner was just bad. It detracts from the modern look of the dress. For some reason, this just bums me out. I guess because it could have been really cool with the right hair. *Sigh* I think this over-the-shoulder, prom portrait is not helping matters.

I’m gonna say this trend stemmed from two weeks ago when Betty Draper wore a wicked updo in Rome on Mad Men.
