Holy crap. Amanda Seyfried’s hair is incredible. It looks like real-life Barbie hair only much softer.
I want to curl up in it and take a very long nap.

I’ve been having a major blonde hair conundrum for a while now. I was blonde as a kid, my hair darkened as I got older, and I’ve been keeping it (other than the occasional break to brunette or red) in the medium blonde range since highschool. I have pale skin, and I generally think the light hair color suits me best. In general, I’m not one for high contrast.
Anyhoo, I’ve been dying (no pun intended, swear) for my hair to be a cool beige, champagne, ash, blonde. I think it would suit my skin tone better, which has pink undertones, than a yellow-based blonde. My hair dresser says I can carry of gold tones, but I guess it’s a personal preference. I like silver jewelry better than gold, for example.
Problem is, my new hair dresser says my hair “lightens warm,” despite my natural roots looking like a relatively cool hue. She put in a silver-colored treatment (can’t remember what she called it, but said it was semi-permanenet & would wash out in a few weeks). It didn’t totally take me to the ash level I wanted. In the past, I’ve picked out the ashiest grocery store box blonde I could find (I know, for shame!), but my hair turned out majorly gold (of course), even to the point where it surprised my stylist that it wasn’t ashier. And I’ve used a violet shampoo, too, but it wasn’t enough to counteract the yellow. I’d like the color to be permanent.
It’s really hard to find a pic online of a true medium ash color. I picture it as a medium-colored platinum- no yellow or orange undertones. And I don’t want to go too dark, to avoid mousiness.
My hair’s been in this range:

And I’m aiming for a hue more like this:

At this point, I’d be happy if my hair looked like this, cause I’m just so sick of the gold (yeah, it’s kinda creepy):

To sum up, do you know of a good hair color I could purchase, or a product or method of color I could suggest to my stylist? She seemed a little stumped on how to not go darker, just greyer. I’m not rollin in dough at the moment, so reasonably-priced is good.. but at this point, I’d pay a premium to avoid getting antsy and trying another cheesy store-bought dye job against my better judgement!
Kat, that doll hair picture cracked me up (and kind of freaked me out!) I did a little research and asked a twitter friend about the hair color you’re looking for, and basically they appear to all be cool tone blondes, so ask for either violet or blue based depending on what your natural hair color is. Mischa definitely has a good amount of highlights in there too, to break up the color and add depth. Let me know how it goes!
