I read about how not shampooing your hair will produce wonderful results and I was intrigued by the whole idea. I figure it does make sense for the body to overproduce oils when its' stripped of its' natural oils, so let's give it a break. I'm on Day 2 of not shampooing, but I'm not one to shampoo it every day anyways to prevent it from drying out. So far so good, it feels a bit oily (I have medium length straight hair) but I've been leaving my hair down and I actually like the way it looks. Though I have to admit, I'm still in the beginning stages. I'm hoping it doesn't look too oily as I progress into this new way of "not doing" things. I made the mistake of telling some of my co-workers about it and I've gotten some slack about it, but they're not the type to give in to being totally "Mother Earthy" anyway, but it's not like I am either (I like wearing makeup just as much as the next person)!
I'm going shampooless for the main goal of having a very healthy mane with my own natural oils. I like the fact that it helps the environment, helps my body detoxify, saves me money and takes away one thing from my life that I shouldn't depend on!
I hope that I won't be deterred from this shampoo-less lifestyle that I'm entering. Wish me luck!

I have been using a modified no-poo method that works perfectly for me. I am 3c/4a and co-wash about 2x a week with different products, such as GVP moisturizing conditioner or Proclaim glossing conditioner (both Sally store brand). After that, I use the mixed-chicks leave-in conditioner and air dry. That night, I put my hair into about 7 or 8 3-stand twists. Next morning, I take out the twists and go. This routine lasts for 3 or 4 days and then I start the whole routine again. I shampoo once a month.

Okay, I read the link to no-poo that you gave. It seems that it's only suitable for curly hair?

When I use conditioner, my hair looks oily and dirty almost immediatly. Actually, it looks almost exactly like it does with just baking soda, but not as thick and heavy feeling as it is with the baking soda.

Thanks for the info! I'm learning from your site!

Okay, so tell me about this no shampoo. My hair is very straight, and more oily than dry. When I use shampoo it's limp and lifeless, but with baking soda it has a bit more body.

How do you clean your hair? Just water? And what's the purpose of conditioner?

Thanks for visiting my blog, by the way :)
